Staten Island Advance: Read the Fine Print Before Investing in a Home Warranty

Cindy Miller has dutifully renewed the home warranty on her Arlington, Texas home each year for the past decade. After her most recent experience, though, she’s not sure she’ll renew it when it expires this year.

Miller recently had trouble with her hot water heater, so she contacted her home warranty provider, which sent out a plumber to look at it. The plumber’s diagnosis — to replace the heater — was rejected by the warranty company, which then insisted on sending another plumber out to diagnose the issue.
